Sir Victor Efosa Uwaifo, “the master musician”, the guitar boy is a household name in Nigeria. Born with artistic gifts of many dimensions, he has made an indelible mark in more ways than one. He is a multi-talented and a very hardworking Artist, a fact that he writes his own songs, composes, sings and also to this talent he adds sculpture, carving and he also draws beautifully. Born on the 1st March 1941, Victor Uwaifo had his education in Lagos in particular. He attended the Western Boy’s High School and later St. Gregory’s College, Obalende, Lagos. He later proceeded in the early ’60s to Yaba College of Technology where he graduated with distinction in 1963 in Commercial Art Graphics. University of Benin 1993 – 1995, B. A. First Class Hons Degree and a Masters Degree from the same University in 1997. This musical colossus, an embodiment of the arts, is also an inventor both in mechanical and electronics. A publisher with four published works. Uwaifo has put 50 years or more into music with about 100 single albums and 240 records. Uwaifo made history for Nigeria when in 1969, Philips Records West Africa awarded him a gold disc for the unprecedented sales of one of his most popular tracks ” Joromi” and thus became one of the first Nigerians in the West African sub-region to win gold. Nigeria’s most traveled musician, Uwaifo has performed all over Europe and America. Uwaifo has won the gold disc award several times. He was also a recipient of a national award during the Shehu Shagari Administration, receiving the Member of the Order of Niger (MON).

Today, Sir Victor Uwaifo is the proud owner of Michael Angelo Arts Gallery in Benin, Edo State. Among some of his other compositions are Guitar Boy, Siwo Siwo, etc. Sir Victor Uwaifo ranks among the best and the greatest in Highlife music in particular and music in general. He is presently a professor at the University of Benin.
