Jerry Hansen whose Ramblers Dance Band also impacted the Nigerian audience stands out not because he was the most prolific of all the highlife exponents, but he will continue to be remembered for his enduring sound. Even when other highlife outfits quit the scene for fear of competition from Soul music in the late ’60s, the Ramblers Dance Band still rambled on.

Some of the boys were Frank Oroffie on the Guitar, Eddie Owoo, Felix Amenuano on the flute, and Bassey, a Nigerian and a host of others. Many bands existed in Ghana to help establish the culture of highlife which has remained formidable and undiminished, but the Ramblers Dance Band remained committed to the music till the 70s when all other veterans had abandoned highlife. Hansen turned out more albums than many other veterans. He paraded a big band of professional musicians who sometimes depended on written scores for their performances. Dressed in well-made suits, they presented a beautiful spectacle on stage. Some of their memorable performances were at the yearly Havanah in some of the Nigerian Universities. Some of Rambler’s greats are Knock on Wood one of the most popular hits of the soul era by Eddie Floyd, Kae Debi, Grazing in the sun,  Se eye mi do, etc.
