Born on Sunday, 22nd September 1946 in Ondo State. He is one of the thirteen children of Mr. and Mrs. Adeniyi Adegeye of Ondo State. Sunny spent a considerable part of his childhood in the art town of Osogbo, now in Osun State. He joined Sunday Ariyo and Idowu Owoeye’s, juju bands in Osogbo where he was a part-time percussionist. In the mid 63 Sunny fled to Lagos where he joined Moses Olaiya Adejumo’s (Baba Sala) Federal Rhythm Dandies. In 1965, after spending about 2 years with Adejumo, Sunny established the Sunny Adex and His High Society Band. Later in 1966, Sunny changed the name of his group to SunnyAde and The Green Spot Band. In 1967, Sunny released his first album “Alanu to L’Oluwa under the Abioros African Song label. But unfortunately for Sunny, only thirteen were sold. In a Challenge Cup duel. Sunny Ade had a big break with the release of this chartbuster “Challenge Cup”. This album sold in thousands and Nigerians were quick in recognizing the emergence of a new King. Since then King Sunny Ade has remained the King of Juju music and refused to be ruled or dominated in the music industry. To date, he has nothing less than 80 LPs to his credit. Sunny sings on different issues from current affairs to moral songs. His music is laced with cultural songs and incantations. Propagation of government ideals is one of his fortes, entertaining people and making them happy are two things he mostly cherished in life. Societal problems and reality are the messages dear to Sunny. The merrymakers will never refuse to dance on hearing songs like Sweet Banana”, “My Dear”, ” The Merciful God”, “Let Them Say” etc Sunny Ade has toured over 45 American Cities and European countries such as England, Italy, Holland, Belgium, France, etc. King Sunny Ade is a genius and there is no doubt about that. Sunny Ade deserves any accolade given to him because he is the king of all time, not only in the Nigerian musical scene, not in Africa, but the world over.
