Yoruba Ronu Born in Ososa present Ogun State on 10th of July, 1916, this police-turned Opera personified was one of the greatest out of the over 90 travelling theatre companies that made up the Union of Nigerian Dramatics and Play Rights at that time. Only a few perform Operas the Duro Ladipo National Theatre being among few. The late Kola Ogunmola, particularly in the latter part of his career did not specialize in Opera neither do the comparatively new theatres of Moses Olaiya (Alias Baba Sala), Ojo Ladipo alias Baba Mero or Oyin Olajobi concern themselves as all with Operas. In the use of Music, Ogunde was fluid and grandiose for the reason that every song he composed was designed specifically to be sung to a particular piece of drama. Music to him was a technical tool of theatre while the theatre in turn was a weapon of cultural restoration. The great John Ademuwagun Akintola a.k.a. Roy Chicago and several other Nigerian Musicians started their career with this great man. He composed hit tunes like Ije Ogun, Olubunmi, etc. For Roy Chicago. To make his start in the film industry, Ogunde choose Aiye, which as a stage play, attracted crowds at each programme, The release of the film in 1979 brought an unprecedented crowd to the National Theatre. Like most artistic geniuses, the late Hubert Ogunde stands as a colossus. Hubert Adedeji Ogunde passed on the 4th of April, 1990 .
