E. C. Arinze presently in his eighties, entertained the whole world at his base at Kakadu hotel Alagomeji Lagos in the sixties. E.C. Arinze who was a great force to be reckoned with in the evolution and development of Highlife attracted almost everybody white, black, young, and old. His music appealed to the elite all because he combined highlife with ballroom dance music. British nationals resident in Lagos saw him as the equivalent of Joe Loss or Victor Sywester whose music they danced to back home in terms of Mango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep, and what have you.

Victor Uwaifo, a world-renowned musician, began his musical career as a guitarist under E. C. Arinze at St. Gregory’s College in Obalende. He also featured very skilled musicians such as Exy Ohunta on vocals, Etim Udoh on saxophone, and many others. He wrote the timeless songs “Time for Highlife, Nike Nike,” which have grown so popular. He also performed a slew of other well-known songs. He is currently retired in his hometown of Ogidi, near Atani, Anambra State.
