The Broadway Dance Band was one of the greatest bands in Ghana in the Sixties. The band leader was Joss Aikins. It was through their great musicianship that made the President of Kenya, Jomo Kenyata invite them to play for the country’s Independence. They had hits such as ‘Wofa Nono, Ashiwo, Medo wo Aunty Mary, Asem ti’ etc. After their return from Kenya, they disbanded and some of them formed a new band called the Uhuru Dance Band. The leader Joss Aikins then joined the Melody Aces led by Ignace de Suzah and they continued with a good job of Broadway Dance Band till the late 60s. Ignace Suza hails from the Republic of Benin but was born and bred in Ghana.
